In addition to Mgr Athanasius Schneider, the historian Michela Di Mieri delivered a talk on the “The story of a return home”. She unfolded the journey of her life, which began with extreme left activism (the Italian style, of course, where communists sometimes go to mass like Pepone), until she discovered the traditional mass, its beauty and its holiness, which literally transformed her life. She ended her talk with humor with the exclamation: <i>No pasarán</i>!, intended at our persecutors.</p><p style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; text-align: justify;">On Friday evening, at the beginning of the pontifical vespers presided by Mgr Athanasius Schneider in the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Martiri (the Pantheon), he delivered a very powerful sermon on the intangibility of Catholic doctrine, a translation of which will be provided by Paix Liturgique very shortly.</p><p style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; text-align: justify;">As I had anticipated the message conveyed to the whole city of Rome by the pilgrimage was that of the unsinkable presence of the traditional Roman mass. The most visible moment of this testimony was of course the procession, which took place on Saturday. It started at the church of San Celso, crossed the Ponte Sant'Angelo, and went up Via della Conciliazione, passing then through Piazza Pio XII, where the main Congregations of the Curia have their headquarters, crossing Saint Peter's Square to finally enter the Basilica at the singing of the Creed.</p><p style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; text-align: justify;">But this year, the fact that the celebration of mass was not permitted in Saint Peter's ended up giving a great amount of publicity to the pilgrimage. As a militant reflex, many pilgrims arrived at San Celso on Saturday morning, among whom a group of faithful of SSPX with their chaplain. As a result, the number of faithful following the procession presided over by Father Antonius Maria Mamsery, superior general of the Missionaries of the Holy Cross of Tanzania, was particularly large (police figure: more than 1000, which means…)</p><p style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; text-align: justify;">A Cardinal Prefect of Congregation, clergyman, wooden pectoral cross, who wanted to cross via della Conciliazione was blocked by the police and watched in amazement as the long procession passed through in front of his eyes. In the end, he even mixed with the pilgrims, no doubt to get a closer look at the representatives of this species that he thought had disappeared forever. It was to the point that the Italian police - who, under the Bernini's colonnade, control those entering the basilica, by means of security gates with metal detectors - were simply overwhelmed, and, since the wait for the procedure to be concluded became interminable, they were forced to open a another gate only for the pilgrims.</p><p>Support the FIUV by <a href=" http://www.fiuv.org/p/friends-of-international-federation-una.html">becoming a Friend</a>.</p></div>Joseph Shawhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06587987442560784792noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8619107494918364015.post-20935770233089213492023-11-01T16:41:00.009+01:002023-11-07T19:25:17.430+01:00FIUV General Assembly 2023<div class="separator"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/josephshaw/53303070070/in/dateposted/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="IMG_3632"><img alt="IMG_3632" height="333" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53303070070_03f633a343.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><div class="separator"><br /></div><div class="separator">Last weekend the annual Summorum Pontificum 'Ad Petri Sedem' Pilgrimage took place, in which the FIUV participated. I discussed the national reports <a href="https://issuu.com/gregoriusmagnus/docs/gads1714_gregorius_magnus_14_winter_2023_web/s/17260165">here</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div>The voice of Catholics attached to the Traditional Mass do emerge in two of the reports: not surprisingly, those of Europe and North America. This is not because Traditional Catholics are absent from Oceania, Asia, Africa, and South America, but because the bishops of those regions have been unwilling to allow celebrations or to acknowledge their point of view. It is worth reminding ourselves that the Traditional movement is well-established in Australia and New Zealand; there are many apostolates of the Traditional priestly institutes in Africa, notably the ICKSP in Gabon; and South America is home to the Apostolic Administration of St Jean Vianney in Campos, Brazil, the one place in the world where one can find a bishop exercising ordinary jurisdiction over a community of traditional faithful.</div><div><br /></div><div>The reports are a reflection not only of the inputs, of course, but of the process of selection. The reports as a whole have very little to say about the liturgy.</div><div><br /></div><div>This is what got through in the European and North American reports: emphasis mine.</div><div><br /></div><b>Europe (<a href="https://www.synod.va/content/dam/synod/common/phases/continental-stage/final_document/Europa_IT_ENG.pdf">pdf</a>)<br /></b><br />67. From a fundamental point of view, it is possible to detect the link between Church and liturgy, between ecclesiology and the theology of liturgy: The liturgical dimension in the Church is a place of strong tensions. These tensions are part of a deeper tension of an ecclesiological nature. Ecclesiological tension often arises from a vision of the Church based on one’s own expectations (Italian language working group). <b>In this context, the tensions and sufferings concerning the ancient form of the Roman liturgy should be understood, with explicit references by France, England and Wales, and Nordic countries to the pre-conciliar liturgy according to the Missal of 1962.</b><br /><br /><b>North America (<a href="https://www.synod.va/content/dam/synod/common/phases/continental-stage/final_document/North-American-Final-Document_EN.pdf">pdf</a>)<br /></b><br />27. Some participants in the synodal process reported on the profound sense of suffering of those prevented from receiving the Eucharist. While there are a variety of reasons for this reality, perhaps preeminent among them is Catholics who are divorced and remarried without an annulment, and others whose objective situation in life contradicts the beliefs and teachings of the Church. <b>Additionally, some delegates spoke of those wounded by the limitations placed on the pre-conciliar Latin rite. </b>Unfortunately, liturgy is not always experienced as unifying. “We could find our unity in common prayer, but liturgy is one of the things that is divisive in the Church and we must break through that” (Session X Group 18).<br /><div><p>Support the FIUV by <a href=" http://www.fiuv.org/p/friends-of-international-federation-una.html">becoming a Friend</a>.</p></div>Joseph Shawhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06587987442560784792noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8619107494918364015.post-4950196776853344312023-04-01T16:19:00.000+02:002023-04-01T16:19:08.353+02:00Gregorius Magnus 15 published<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEVmbUtXq155DhwZr50-sXxsHifuo32rLEpw0F5f6ksgj7SOtzMJDkZROl_V9wDwWusOjiLH_LAwoLplsWQCBcSHHjzLgcTlE_Otx8Ty_AiOXdoYb2ltifnsYip1r23qVYEUJavvcglakbeFY-ACBA8tt9_nt1VzeT8uysBsoHPa054bYSnJkXLEyj/s1550/GM15%20banner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="538" data-original-width="1550" height="179" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEVmbUtXq155DhwZr50-sXxsHifuo32rLEpw0F5f6ksgj7SOtzMJDkZROl_V9wDwWusOjiLH_LAwoLplsWQCBcSHHjzLgcTlE_Otx8Ty_AiOXdoYb2ltifnsYip1r23qVYEUJavvcglakbeFY-ACBA8tt9_nt1VzeT8uysBsoHPa054bYSnJkXLEyj/w515-h179/GM15%20banner.jpg" width="515" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2-MhG6_e5Hqvz8lex6w4tcuBn7Srnnw0ly8VRgaQ3HvZPSYj1aqJHSeiavNBuZ86w8fkTc9cWtou58V_yVx7qzIP9Ztwesycqr3FnabhoxZ68xKTn6uOHtS2D6Gf_kvXSjwf8WZRZPfk2ArEkoZms6fUbWR_eGEls-nFrWW1TyWHgKdNyFgLYoFsE/s717/Contents.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="717" data-original-width="398" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2-MhG6_e5Hqvz8lex6w4tcuBn7Srnnw0ly8VRgaQ3HvZPSYj1aqJHSeiavNBuZ86w8fkTc9cWtou58V_yVx7qzIP9Ztwesycqr3FnabhoxZ68xKTn6uOHtS2D6Gf_kvXSjwf8WZRZPfk2ArEkoZms6fUbWR_eGEls-nFrWW1TyWHgKdNyFgLYoFsE/s320/Contents.jpg" width="178" /></a><p align="left" style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px 0px 1.3em; padding: 0px; text-align: left; unicode-bidi: embed; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><strong>Gregorius Magnus 15, Summer 2023, is now <a href="https://lms.org.uk/sites/default/files/resource_documents/gregmag/summer2023web.pdf" style="color: #3693cc; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">available as a PDF</a>.</strong> </span></p><p align="left" style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px 0px 1.3em; padding: 0px; text-align: left; unicode-bidi: embed; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: georgia;"><em>*and on <a href="https://issuu.com/gregoriusmagnus/docs/gads1743_gregorius_magnus_15_summer_2023_web" style="color: #3693cc; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">ISSUU*</a></em>, optimised for mobile devices.</span></p><p align="left" style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px 0px 1.3em; padding: 0px; text-align: left; unicode-bidi: embed; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">This issue has two appreciations of Pope Benedict XVI and a report of the most recent Summorum Pontificum 'Ad Sedem Petri' Pilgrimage in Rome, and meeting of CIEL in Rome.</span></p><p align="left" style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em; margin: 0px 0px 1.3em; padding: 0px; text-align: left; unicode-bidi: embed; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: georgia;">Would you like to <a href="http://www.fiuv.org/p/advertising-in-gregorius-magnus-and.html" style="color: #3693cc; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">advertise</a>? Other places of worship include ‘chapels of ease’ (known by various names in different countries), which are secondary churches in a parish served by the clergy of the parish. They also include churches and chapels attached to religious communities and private houses; churches designated as shrines; and churches dedicated to serving a particular group not identified by reference to the geographical boundaries of a parish, i.e. personal parishes and chaplaincies (including ethnic chaplaincies).</p><p style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; box-sizing: border-box; caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify;">The status of a church as a parish church is a matter for the bishop to determine (in accordance with set procedures) in establishing, abolishing, or merging parishes.</p><p style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; box-sizing: border-box; caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify;">Some dioceses have many non-parish churches; others, very few. In some countries there are no parish churches, because the parish structure has not been established. In some cases Cathedrals are parish churches, and in some cases they are not.</p><p style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; box-sizing: border-box; caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify;">The fact that the existence of non-parish churches is so varied for reasons of history and local circumstances makes the focus on the celebration of the 1962 Missal in parish churches puzzling, and restrictions on these celebrations potentially very arbitrary and unjust. Restrictions on the use of parish churches will be felt much more keenly in the United States of America, for example, than in Italy.</p><p style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%; box-sizing: border-box; caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify;"><strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">Personal parishes</strong> are one possible legal structure through which provision can be made formally for the 1962 Missal. In some countries where there is currently widespread provision for the 1962 Mass, such as England and Wales, this structure has been used very little. Alternatives include establishing a shrine for the celebration of this Missal, or its celebration alongside the reformed Mass in a parish or non-parish church. The legal structure of a personal parish gives the priest in charge many of the duties and privileges of a parish priest, but it <strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">does not make the church where it is based a ‘parish church’</strong>. In this he set out a way of achieving liturgical peace, after decades of conflict, allocating a permanent and honoured place in the life of the Church for the older liturgy. This was fittingly symbolised by the celebration of the Traditional Mass in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, with increasing solemnity as the years passed, for international gatherings, first of the FIUV, and then of the International Pilgrimage ad Sedem Petri, ‘Summorum Pontificum’.<br /><br />It has been a direct effect of Pope Benedict’s document to make it possible for many tens of thousands of Catholics, including many priests, to discover the enduring value of the ‘older liturgical tradition’. This is something whose effects will long endure.<br /><br />The Federation has asked for Masses to be said for Pope Benedict, and calls on its member associations to arrange Requiem Masses of suitable solemnity for him in due course.<br /><br /><i>Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.</i><p>Support the FIUV by <a href=" http://www.fiuv.org/p/friends-of-international-federation-una.html">becoming a Friend</a>.</p>Joseph Shawhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06587987442560784792noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8619107494918364015.post-70132068914672133852022-11-12T18:56:00.002+01:002022-11-12T18:56:30.785+01:00FIUV Liturgical Ordo for 2023 available<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI6VNRt1QAKARRFpSt6ierkbcIotXSh-QdzQAaKFeINXRpHqQVxnfXPI1KpsA_sy-drN90pJgvqusQvQlRtIi9BzxPipu4WD_ILT3XKf-HCpSjo1EbJazwNr0weS4OumBnpauZebnV_ivFC2oxF4McfKHZyjwCqxplfR36lWXOHKKqiFQRvg/s4032/IMG-6108.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI6VNRt1QAKARRFpSt6ierkbcIotXSh-QdzQAaKFeINXRpHqQVxnfXPI1KpsA_sy-drN90pJgvqusQvQlRtIi9BzxPipu4WD_ILT3XKf-HCpSjo1EbJazwNr0weS4OumBnpauZebnV_ivFC2oxF4McfKHZyjwCqxplfR36lWXOHKKqiFQRvg/s320/IMG-6108.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>Since the PCED and its successor, in the form of the 4th Section of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, lost its responsibility for the Traditional Mass, the Ordo it used to publish for the 1962 Missal has also ceased to appear.<p></p><p>As a service to the Church, the International Una Voce Federation (FIUV) has taken up this task, with the help of Peter Day-Milne.</p><p><b>We are pleased to present, therefore, an <a href="https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/19978542/484272794976980#">Ordo </a>for the calendar year 2023</b>: to be exact, it runs from the First Sunday of Advent 2022 to the Octave of the Nativity of Our Lord, 1st January 2024. </p><p><i>Ordo Divini Officii recitandi sacrique peragendi secdundum antiquam Ritus Romani Formam, pro Anno Domini 2023.<span></span></i></p><p>This is the Ordo of the Universal Calendar: that is, without any of the feasts specific to particular parishes, dioceses, nations, or religious orders. Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">O Queen of
the most holy Rosary, help of Christians, refuge of the human race, victorious
in all the battles of God, we prostrate ourselves in supplication before thy
throne, in the sure hope of obtaining mercy and of receiving grace and timely
aid in our present calamities, not through any merits of our own on which we do
not rely, but only through the immense goodness of thy mother’s Heart. In thee
and in thy Immaculate Heart, at this grave hour of human history, do we put our
trust; to thee we consecrate ourselves, not only with all of Holy Church, which
is the mystical body of thy Son Jesus, and which is suffering in so many of her
members, being subjected to manifold tribulations and persecutions, but also
with the whole world, torn by discords, agitated with hatred, the victim of its
own iniquities.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Be thou
moved by the sight of such material and moral degradation, such sorrows, such
anguish, so many tormented souls in danger of eternal loss! Do thou, O Mother
of mercy, obtain for us from God a Christ-like reconciliation of the nations,
as well as those graces which can convert the souls of men in an instant, those
graces which prepare the way and make certain the long desired coming of peace
on earth. O Queen of peace, pray for us, and grant peace unto the world in the
truth, the justice, and the charity of Christ.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Above all,
give us peace in our hearts, so that the kingdom of God may spread its borders
in the tranquillity of order. Accord thy protection to unbelievers and to all
those who lie within the shadow of death; cause the Sun of Truth to rise upon
them; may they be enabled to join with us in repeating before the Saviour of
the world: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men of good
will.” Give peace to the nations that are separated from us by error or
discord, and in a special manner to those peoples who profess a singular
devotion toward thee; bring them back to Christ’s one fold, under the one true
Shepherd. Obtain full freedom for the holy Church of God; defend her from her
enemies; check the ever-increasing torrent of immorality; arouse in the
faithful a love of purity, a practical Christian life, and an apostolic zeal,
so that the multitude of those who serve God may increase in merit and in
number.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Finally,
even as the Church and all mankind were once consecrated to the Heart of thy
Son Jesus, because He was for all those who put their hope in Him an
inexhaustible source of victory and salvation, so in like manner do we
consecrate ourselves<span style="color: red;">, and the nations of Russia and
Ukraine,</span> forever to thee also and to thy Immaculate Heart, O Mother of
us and Queen of the world; may thy love and patronage hasten the day when the
kingdom of God shall be victorious and all the nations, at peace with God and
with one another, shall call thee blessed and intone with thee, from the rising
of the sun to its going down, the everlasting “Magnificat” of glory, of love,
of gratitude to the Heart of Jesus, in which alone we can find truth, life, and
peace.</span></p>
